Authorities said that two suspects were in custody after the deaths of two officers on Thursday night when they were executing a warrant in a suburb close to Atlanta.

Initially, the Cobb County Sheriff’s Office stated that two deputies had “died in the line of duty” and that a SWAT team and other law enforcement personnel were still on the site in Marietta where a suspect was trapped. Later, according to CBS station WGCL-TV, the suspects were arrested.

Sheriff Craig D. Owens subsequently said that the officers were speaking to the suspects after getting out of their vehicles when bullets were fired, according to WSB-TV. According to Owens, the Cobb County Police Department was holding the two alleged offenders for interrogation.

He claimed that the sheriff’s department had been enforcing a warrant for failure to appear by theft or fraud.

Law enforcement officers gathered outside the hospital to support the slain deputies, according to WGCL-TV.

Residents in the neighborhood reportedly heard numerous gunshots before witnessing a swarm of law enforcement personnel, according to WSB-TV.

The two deceased deputies, according to Owens, had worked for his agency for more than five years.

More details will be published in the future, according to the sheriff’s office.

According to WGCL-TV, Cobb County Sheriff Craig Owens stated, “We want to make comprehensive notifications to their entire family.” “These two cops served Cobb County with dignity and pride,” the sheriff said. “Our hearts are absolutely torn. It’s not going to be an easy path. This is a very terrible moment for us.”

One of Georgia’s most populated counties, sprawling Cobb County sits located northwest of Atlanta and has more than 760,000 residents.

A guy opened fire on Kentucky police in July while they were seeking to serve a warrant at a residence when three policemen were murdered.
